Employee Name: Sébastien Ducroz
Location: France
Job Title: Developer
Length of time at GTreasury: 16 years at Coprocess
Q. What do you believe are your key strengths?
A. I believe my strengths include problem-solving, diligence and adaptability. As a developer, I enjoy analyzing complex problems, breaking them into manageable tasks, and finding efficient solutions. Additionally, I prioritize writing clean, maintainable and testable code, so that the overall quality of our product gets better over time and the job of my colleagues becomes easier.
Q. How do you keep track of the things you need to do?
A. I use a combination of tools to keep track of my tasks and priorities. For GTreasury-related work, I mainly rely on Azure Boards to track my next tasks; in the Coprocess team, we internally use the Helix ALM tool to track ongoing projects and deadlines, until we can fully migrate to ADO. I also break my tasks into smaller goals and refresh their priorities very often, ensuring that critical work is completed first. Eventually, I keep my Outlook mailbox clean, using flagging and archiving to pin down urgent work.
Q. What makes you happy in a job?
A. I take pride in finding elegant solutions to challenging problems. I enjoy writing neat and performing code and unit tests, following best practices and proven design patterns. Seeing my work make a positive impact, and recognition for a job well done also contribute significantly to my satisfaction. Eventually, witnessing happiness in my team is a good meter of a job well done!
Q. Why do you feel you have work/life balance? Do you have any tips/tricks for others to improve their work/life balance?
A. I am an advocate for a good work/life balance, I really think it makes people more efficient overall. For that, I am trying to set boundaries and prioritize my time effectively. My tips would be to establish clear goals for both work and personal life, and to have a dedicated, isolated room if possible, for people doing work from home, so that it makes a concrete boundary between work and free time.
Q. Think about a good manager you’ve had. What did they do that made them a good manager?
A. I remember a manager I’ve had that had a really good impact on the workplace. He was friendly and open-minded but at the same time very professional; he provided constructive feedback and gave a lot of trust to the employees, empowering them to take responsibility and ownership of their tasks. We also regularly celebrated team successes and doing outside activities, which made everyone feel happy, valued and motivated.
Q. What do you like about the work environment or culture here?
A. I appreciate the collaborative and supportive environment at GTreasury. Open communication and emphasis on people makes it a great and modern workplace, where everyone feels useful and involved. It’s also great to be part of a team that encourages continuous learning and experimentation.
Q. Who are some of your biggest inspirations at GTreasury?
A. Really, all my teammates and managers who are really dedicated to their work and always do everything that is possible to reach their goals. A lot of people have a very positive attitude in every situation, which gives people motivation and happiness.
Q. How have you grown professionally at GTreasury?
A. I learned a lot in a very short period when starting at GTreasury! I had to quickly adapt to a new and modern work environment, learn a lot of concepts, tools and techniques. I’ve had the opportunity to get deeper insights into some programming languages and environments. I’m also constantly learning from my colleagues. All of that gave me opportunities to refine my skills and considerably expand my knowledge.
Q. What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?
A. I would say: stay curious, never stop learning. Be open to new ideas and don’t hesitate to step outside of your comfort zone. Always question your assumptions and be willing to challenge what you think you already know. Even if a task seems insurmountable, try and do it instead of avoiding the obstacle. You will always learn something in the process.
Q. What’s something you are passionate about outside of the workplace?
A. I enjoy getting outside and doing sports like running, trailing and winter sports in general. It’s a great way for me to maintain balance in my life and manage stress.
