June Employee Spotlight: Stephanie Ryan

Q: What do you believe are your key strengths?

A: One key strength I have is problem solving.  It’s very rewarding to be able to put heads together when faced with an issue and come up with a working solution. 

Q: How do you keep track of the things you need to do?

A: I use multiple avenues to make lists and take notes.  For tasks that I need complete myself, I create a list on a piece of paper that is always on my desk in front of me.  When scoping or learning a module I use OneNote to document throughout the meeting.  My emails are left in my inbox until addressed and then are organized in folders based on the type of request.

Q: What makes you happy in a job?

A: Being challenged but also feeling supported makes me happy in a job.  It’s very rewarding to work through issues and come to a resolution whether it’s internally or on a client project.

Q: Why do you feel you have work/life balance? Do you have any tips/tricks for others to improve their work/life balance?

A: The two most significant sources of pride in my life are my children and my career.  I want to demonstrate the importance of hard work while also making time for other passions. To achieve this balance, I try to set specific working hours so that I am available for my children when they get home from daycare.  In order to log off at a specific time daily, I have to stay organized and on task while working remote.  Find a good priority system for your tasks and make the best use of time and limit distractions.   

Q: Think about a good manager you’ve had. What did they do that made them a good manager?

A: The best manager(s) I’ve had empowered me to make decisions and influence processes all while being present when I needed help pushing through roadblocks.  They’ve helped me believe in myself and grow in areas that were lacking in order to reach my goals.

Q: What do you like about the work environment or culture here?

A: The company has expanded tremendously during my time here and the collaboration remains, making it an enjoyable place to work.   I have been given so many opportunities to advance my career at GTreasury and have always felt supported throughout that growth. 

Q: Who are some of your biggest inspirations at GTreasury?

A: Justin Anderson has inspired me to embrace challenges and roles that I may have previously avoided.  He has been a great mentor to work with over the years.  Robin Heller has been a great example of a strong and supportive leader that has balanced a family and successful career.  She inspires me to continue pushing forward in my own career and continue setting higher goals. 

Q: How have you grown professionally at GTreasury?

A: I have held various roles within the Solutions team in my 10 years, constantly seeking ways to expand my knowledge in different areas of the system.  I’ve learned the importance of knowing when to speak up and when to step back and reassess before taking action.  I’ve developed the ability to strategize and work together in difficult situations. 

Q: What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?

A: Never be afraid to ask questions or seek help when you’re confused.  Set goals and push yourself to grow, especially in areas that make you uncomfortable.  You will be surprised at what you can accomplish if you give it your all rather than being afraid of failure.  

Q: What’s something you are passionate about outside of the workplace?

A: I love being outdoors and exploring and prefer travelling to areas where we can hike and enjoy nature.  I also enjoy cooking and I involve my children as much as possible to ensure they learn those skills.
